Hitman 3, or as it’s now known, Hitman: World of Assassination, is absolutely awesome. And given how many copies have been sold (25 million across the new trilogy) I think we all understood Hitman wasn’t dead. But now we have official confirmation from IO Interactive.

IO Interactive is quite busy right now, pouring all their time and effort into 007 First Light, which is currently expected to launch in March, 2026. They’ve also got something called Project Fantasy in development, alongside a co-op mode for Hitman: World of Assassination.

In an interview with Variety, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak discussed the topic of Hitman and the franchise’s future.

“So of course there will be more ‘Hitman,’” he said. “But right now, I think we need to get to the other side of this year and next year you’ll get more news about ‘Hitman’ co-op”.

But when might we hear of the next Hitman?

Abrak confirms that they will, “be talking about the next ‘Hitman” after that. It’s unclear if that means the company will begin discussing the next game internally or if it will be a public reveal, but either way, the maths points toward 2028.

Abrak also talks about the ongoing success of Hitman: World of Assassination.

“We have had more than 85 million gamers play it, and we have north of 25 million copies sold,” he said. “Every month, we have more than a million people playing ‘Hitman’ consistently. That’s pretty amazing after all these years.”

Personally, I freaking adore Hitman and can’t wait to see Agent 47 return.
