Warner Bros has announced that amateur magician simulator Hogwarts Legacy has now surpassed a whopping 40 million copies sold.

The last time we got an update on the game’s total was back in March, when it had shifted 34 million copies, so between now and then, it has managed to sell another 6 million copies and counting.

Note, this actually is copies sold. God knows how many players it has had, because it has been available on several subscription services.

A quick glance at Wikipedia’s list of the best-selling games shows that Hogwarts Legacy is now tied for 19th, along with Payday 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog.

A sequel is already in development at Avalanche.

Warner Bros, of course, are rather busy at the moment. They announced a deal with Netflix recently for the streaming company to acquire Warner Bros new subsidiary in 2026, including the entirety of its gaming vision. Hilariously, Netflix has already said that it considers the game’s vision to be “relatively minor compared to the grand scheme of things.”

There is some doubt that the deal with occur, though, because rival Paramount want to perform a hostile takeover, publicly announcing that it will pay far more than Netflix to buy the company, essentially delivering the offer straight to the shareholders.

As for Warner Bros, it gaming division pretty much seems to be held up Hogwarts Legacy right now. Sales of Mortal Kombat 1 weren’t great, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League flopped hard.
