Capcom continues to do very well for itself, as its recent financial report indicates its 12th year of consecutive increased operating profit. But what that’s nice for the company, their report contains other intriguing information, such as Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney all getting named dropped.
COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto was the one to brought the topic up in the 44-page document which is crammed full of interesting tidbits. But the one I want to bring your attention to is this:
“Capcom owns a wealth of globally popular brands, such as Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney. We aim to expand our user base and improve our performance through new releases, remakes, and ports of titles in these series to new hardware. By enhancing brand power and cultivating loyal fan bases, we will grow these into core IPs.”
Capcom’s current core IP, according them, are Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter.
His wording is very specific. New games in those franchise along with remakes and ports. While I think we all assumed that Devil May Cry would get another entry due to its 10.5 million copies sold and recent anime on Netflix, the Ace Attorney and Megaman franchises have been dormant for longer.
This isn’t the first time Capcom has stated its intent on bring back older series, either, so it looks like they’re serious about it. Hopefully, we won’t be waiting much longer.
As for the new hardware comment, the Switch 2 would make a prime candidate for a Devil May Cry 5 port, wouldn’t it?
